The challenges we face at Aico
Lucas Mayskiy works as a Support Specialist at Aico. During his time working here, he has got accustomed with a variety of potential challenges we face in our work, especially within the support team. We firmly believe in transparency and sharing knowledge, so today, Lucas tells all about the important lessons he has learned along the way of becoming an Aico expert.
A little about myself
My name is Lucas. I started my working life as a salesman, before realising I wanted to help people more. So, I decided to dedicate my career to that. Before joining Aico, I spent over five years working in various customer support roles with some of the most demanding customers. It could get challenging to maintain the highest quality standards sometimes, but my colleagues and management believed in me. That motivated me to always aim to become better and be the best version of myself.
Why I joined Aico
In my personal experience, all customer support tasks seem to reach a point where you've solved all possible issues and learned everything there is to learn.
I found myself in a routine where I resolved the same requests over and over. I wanted to find a place where a challenge was the norm. Somewhere I really belonged. It had to be a place where every day you learned something new.
The position of product application support seemed just about right. It fitted my experience and willingness to learn. I remember when I was asked during the interview how would I feel if I never knew everything about Aico. This was exactly what I was looking for, so I replied that that would make me happy. With this attitude, I joined Aico – feeling fresh and curious about every little thing I could learn.
The lessons I have learned at Aico
1. Be organised
At Aico, you won’t have a bossy manager running after you. Here, I organise myself. I create my own schedule. I decide how much of which task I should take on.
Of course, there are scheduled meetings where my attendance is required. However, mostly I organise my own time. For some, this sounds like the perfect deal. For someone else, it’s a challenge. Well, for me, it’s an unusual practice at work, but it suits me just fine.
2. Overcome yourself
At Aico, you need to be proactive. It's something that comes naturally at Aico. Everyone around you is working hard and always willing to help. And it's contagious.
The best part of this is that it’s much easier than you think if you tend to be more comfortable staying in the background. Yes, at Aico, it’s easy to transform yourself from being silent to someone proactive. And it’s a great feeling.
3. Learn more
You want to become a better version of yourself yesterday! Why? Because that way you’d be able to help your colleagues today. And your customers. And the management. For that reason, I quickly started to learn as much about the product as I could.
I’m always interested in anything that has depth to it. Aico is a unique, highly configurable product. There are many ways it can be used. Because of that, there are endless learning possibilities. During training, we were asked to use our spare time to practice. Break things in the test environment, create documents, and play with everything! It’s all beneficial. And we did – and we still do. I haven’t met a person who could confidently say, “I know everything about Aico.” This lights a spark in my eyes, but it might scare another person.
4. Adapt to customers
Aico gives almost endless possibilities to the end users. Our customers are all using Aico differently. Some are implementing Aico across all areas of their financial close. Others have chosen to integrate only the most crucial features. But they’re all great – they raise questions we never thought of before. This means we can investigate Aico even more and discover things we didn’t know were possible. But it’s a two-sided coin. On the one side, it’s interesting. Maybe I’d even say INTRIGUING.
But it’s still a challenge. We have timeframes within which we must reply to a customer. Even if we have no idea how to fulfil a customer’s request. That’s the flip side, where we must be innovative. We have to be able to utilise our inner resources. It’s where creativity faces challenge. I personally love this feeling, so I feel inspired by Aico.
Are the challenges worth it?
Well, as for myself, I do like the challenges. I believe there are healthy and unhealthy challenges. Healthy challenges don’t harm you, only push you to try harder. Unhealthy challenges don’t help you to grow, but only create issues for you. Aico is all about healthy challenges and I like that. It’s fair to say that it’s sort of a game, where you continue to play to reach a higher skill level. My vision of the challenges might be different from my colleagues, partly because some challenges are specific to the department we’re working in. In my opinion, don’t let the challenges stop you from joining Aico!
